August 2012

Welcome back Pumas! And welcome Class of 2016!! We hope you have enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to this busy school year.

SENIORS, it is too early for senioritis. Do NOT forget to look at your SENIOR TO-DO LIST. The last thing you would want to do is procrastinate on something that considerably takes years to finish.  It's not smart to procrastinate on something that impacts the rest of your life.

The top three things you should focus for now:
  • Have a professional e-mail address.
    Appropriate e-mail example: davidmedina09@yahoo.com
    Inappropriate e-mail example: sexyismyname@yahoo.com
  • Get organized. Get a separate folder for college documents.
  • Work on personal statements. Make sure not to mention the school. Remember, if applying to Private Colleges: optional essays really means  required.
  • WHEN IN DOUBT, Mrs. Ortiz-Martinez is always in the College Center ready to help!

JUNIORS, SOPHOMORES, AND FRESHMEN!!!! It is NEVER TOO EARLY to get ahead with your senior requirements. Important: every semester WILL count when applying to colleges. It is a misconception that Freshmen classes do NOT count, when in fact they do.

JUNIORS: Begin to look for colleges, expand your options. DO NOT be afraid to look past your comfort zone.

SOPHOMORES: Focus on passing your CAHSEE exam this upcoming school year!!! Remember, if you do not pass it, you CANNOT graduate. Aspire to achieve a Proficient score... or even Advanced!

FRESHMEN: Make sure to hit the ground running!!! Every class counts.
