Welcome back Pumas!!!!!!! Did you guys have a splendid winter break?! Well, we hope you did! Now's the time to get into school and get our minds off of vacation!

As for our SENIORS, we congratulate the Class of 2013 for coming this far... this is YOUR year! However, don't start to slack on ANYTHING. Be sure to keep up with your grades, your college deadlines, your FAFSA, and so much  more! Don't forget, eligibity counts for every grading period so if you'd like to participate in the future senior events, make sure you don't have any D's, F's, or U's!

FAFSA- DUE MARCH 2, 2013
Documents needed to fill out your FAFSA
    • Your Social Security card. It is important that you enter your Social Security Number correctly!
    • Your driver's license (if any)
    • Your 2012 W-2 forms and other records of money earned
    • Your (and if married, your spouse's) 2012 Federal Income Tax Return.
      • IRS 1040, 1040A, 1040 EZ
      • Foreign Tax Return, or
      • Tax Return for Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Marshall Islands, the Federal States of Micronesia, or Palau
    • Your Parents' 2012 Federal Income Tax Return (if you are a dependent student)
    • Your 2012 untaxed income records
    • Your current bank statements
    • Your current business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, stock, bond and other investment records
    • Your alien registration or permanent resident card (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
If your parents have not done their taxes yet, you can use numbers for 2011, but will need to update FAFSA before award letters.

AP Exam Registration
To the students who are currently taking AP Classes, it's time to register for your AP Tests!!

*You will only have three weeks to register starting: February 11- March 1, 2013*
Come to the college center during nutrition, lunch, before or after school ONLY to pick up your registration form today!
The fee for each exam is $89.
If you get free or reduced lunch exams cost $5 each.
GET ON IT ASAP! Don't wait until the last minute.

DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY SCHOLARSHIP
The Los Angeles Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is sponsoring college scholarships designed to assist African American students in attaining their goal for post-secondary education.
AWARDS: Up to ten (10) scholarships will be awarded including one $2,000 scholarship based on academic excellence.
ELIGIBILITY: An Applicant Should
  • Be an African-American high school senior who resides within the County of LA.
  • Have at least B+ (3.5) grade point average on a four-point scale and a SAT score that meets the University of California Admissions standards.
  • Show evidence of worthy character, promise, and leadership qualities.
  • Show need of financial assistance to continue his/her educational aspirations.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
  1. The scholarship application with photograph (4x6 or 5x7 photo preferred)
  2. An official copy of his/her high school transcript - including Fall 2012 Semester Grades (Check to make sure SAT/ACT scores are included on official transcript or attach separate copy of scores)
  3. An autobiography (typed on 8 1/2 X 11 paper, no more than two pages double spaced)
  4. A personal letter stating financial need or requesting consideration for academic excellence
  5. Three (3) letters of recommendation - two (2) must be from school personnel (department head, counselor, teacher, and administrator) one (1) from a religious or civic leader, employer, or volunteer supervisor, who will vouch for the character of the applicant

"Dear Cancer, It's Me..." Essay Contest 
An essay contest for high school students to share their stories about living with cancer or their experience with a family member or friend with cancer.
Eligibility
Any student in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade that attend schools located from Van Nuys to Santa Maria.

Technician Program Requirement
 
The Think BIG Program is a 4-year apprencticeship program where employees/apprentices earn an A.S. Degree at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA. Employees/Apprentices attend school and work. They are provided with education in each skill area along with on-the-job training allowing apprentices to apply what was recently learned in class. The program lasts about 8 weeks.
If accepted into the program, Quinn is responsible for:
  • Tuition
  • Books
  • Supplies
  • Technician Tools (With a 3.2 GPA at graduation and working two additional years after graduation, these tools become yours at no charge. This is a $6,500 value.
If accepted to the program, you become an employee of Quinn making you eligible for full benefits:
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and 401(k)
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Complete a Quinn Company Application
  • Successfully complete interviews the Think BIG Coordinator and a Service Manager
  • Pass a drug screen and background test
  • Complete a Wiesen Mechanical Assessment
  • Complete a 250-word essay of why you are interested in becoming a technician and what you ambitions are why you would be successful
  • Provide three letters of recommendation (two from former employers or teachers and one from someone of your choice)
  • Complete a reading, math and writing profiency assessment (this is taken at Delta College during Open House in April).

Aquatic Therapeutic Exercise Program (Aquatics)
The Aquatic program offers adapted aquatics for children with special needs, aquatic therapy, and group fitness sessions using four disctinctively designed pools (movable floor pool, cool pool, whirlpool, and main therapy pool) and various aquatic exercise equipment and devices.
Aquatic Therapeutic Exercise (Independent Program)
Clients can sign up for an independent aquatic exercise session when they have adequate water safety and cognitive skills. An individualized exercise program is designed after thorough aquatic evaluation. After receieving initial orientation participants perform the aquatic exercise program under clinical supervision.
Aquatic Therapeutic Exercise (Assisted Program)
Clients can sign up for a one-on-one assisted aquatic exercise session when they need significant physical assistance. An individualized exercise program is designed after thorough aquatic evaluation. Student intern or staff will assist the clients with performing the aquatidc exercise program under clinical supervision.


 The Buick Achievers
Scholarship Program

 
To students majoring in Engineering/Technology Fields, the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program will be at hand!
 
Eligibility:
  • Be a high school senior, graduates, or current postsecondary sutdent
  • Plan to enroll in full-time under-graduate study at a 4-year-college/University for the entire 2013-2014 academic year
  • Major in a course that focuses on Engineering/Technology/Select Design/Business related programs of study.
  • Demonstrate and interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or industries using these areas of study.
  • Be a U.S. citizen and be a permanent residence in the US/Puerto Rico.
Award Criteria:
Scholarship recipients are selected based on the following factors:
  1. Academic Achievement
  2. Financial Need
  3. Participation and leadership in community and school activities, work experiences and interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industry.
Award Amounts:
Recipients will be awarded one scholarship at either of the two award levels:
  1. 100 Buick Achievers National Scholarships of up to $25,000 per year, avaiable for four years, and one additional year for those entering a five-year engineering program. The scholarships can be used towards the total cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, required equipment, room and board and other allowable expenses, and less other gift aid known at the time of application (scholarships, grants and other awards that do not have to be paid back).
  2. 1.000 Buick Achievers National Scholarships of $2,000. These awards are not renewable; however, recipients may reapply to the program each year eligibility requirements are met.
The awards for National Achievers are renewable for the given years noted above or until a bachelor's degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon maintaining a cumulative 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), full-time enrollment and continuing to major in an eligible field of study.
