Subject:          Alliance of Asian Pacific Administrators (AAPA) Scholarships

One of the main goals of the Alliance of Asian / Pacific Administrators is to provide financial assistance to deserving Asian / Pacific Island seniors who wish to further their career goals through post high school education. This can include, but is not limited to, a two-year junior college or a state accredited private trade school. This year, AAPA is offering scholarships of $2,000.00 each. Applicants are advised to carefully read and follow the application procedures listed below:

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:

  • Is of Asian / Pacific Island Asian ancestry
  • Will be a graduating senior of the Los Angeles Unified School District in June 2016
  • Has maintained at least a 2.5 grade point average or better with evidence of good character, citizenship, and school / community service 
PROCEDURE:

  • Answer all items on the scholarship application.
  • Type a one page, signed autobiography, which may include special reasons of your need for this scholarship, your future educational goals, etc.
  • Secure two signed letters of recommendation written on high school letterhead stationery - one from a teacher, and the other from a school counselor. (Maximum length is one page each).
  • Submit a color photo (head shot passport style) taped to an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper (Scanned photos are not acceptable.)
  • Submit transcripts, which include first semester grades from the current school year.
  • Staple all attachments together.
  • Complete applications must reach the scholarship chairperson by Friday, January 29, 2016. Hand-deliver or mail the application packet via U.S. mail with with appropriate postage. The packet will not be accepted if it arrives after that date. 
  • Please do not attempt to send the packet via LAUSD school mail.
NOTE: Completed application packets must reach the scholarship committee chairperson by Friday, January 29, 2016. Late application packets will not be accepted. Foot Locker Scholar Athletes


GIVE ME THE BARE BONES.
The foot Locker Scholar-Athletes program awards $20,000 to 20 high school, college-bound seniors across the nation for being exemplary leaders on their sports teams, in their classrooms, and in their communities. The college scholarship, sponsored by the Foot Locker Foundation, is and in their communities. The college scholarship, sponsored by the Foot Locker Foundation, is intended to help phenomenal student-athletes pursue their dreams of attending and excelling at a four-year college/university. Applications, available at www.footlockerscholaratheletes.com are due on December 17, 2015.
WHAT IS THE FOOT LOCKER SCHOLAR ATHLETES PROGRAM?
For the fifth consecutive year, Foot Locker will be awarding 20 incoming college freshman with $20,000 in scholarship funding (totaling $40,000) to pursue a 4=year college degree – not because they scored the most touchdowns or goals, but because sports have helped them grow into strong leaders at school and in their communities.
As a newly added bonus, one of our 20 winners will be selected for the Ken C. Hicks scholarship for demonstrating superior educational achievement, outstanding leadership, and a true love of the game. This winner will receive an additional $5,000 award.
This year’s 20 winners will join the program’s four previous classes of Foot Locker Scholar Athletes, which will result in 100 total scholarship recipients since the program’s inception in 2011. By 2016, Foot Locker will have contributed over $2 million to supporting the education and future of some of this generation’s most promising leaders, both on and off the field.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
The scholarship is open to students who:
·       Are current high school seniors entering an accredited, four-year US college or university in the Fall of 2016
·       Are currently members (in good standing) of a high school sports team or are involved in after-school sports (e.g. intramurals, martial arts, etc.)
·       Have maintained an unweighted GPA OF 3.0 or higher from ninth grade to first semester of 12th grade
·       Are U.S. citizens or U.S. Permanent Legal Residents
·       Are NOT Foot Locker employees or immediate family members of a Foot Locker employee
HOW ARE CANDIDATES EVALUATED?
Applicants will be evaluated based on whether they:
·       Embody good sportsmanship and strong moral character
·       Are passionate and committed to empowering the community in which he/she lives
·       Are confident and enthusiastic leaders
·       Display academic excellence
·       Come from diverse backgrounds
·       Are Foot Locker Scholar Athlete material – they are proactive, highly motivated, inspiring, charismatic, honest, trustworthy, genuine, strong and courageous
WHEN IS IT?
 Applications open October 1, 2015 and close December 17, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. (EST)
WHAT DOES THE APPLICATION INCLUDE?
·       Basic information including name, high school, sports you play, unweighted GPA, test scores, etc.
·       Two 500 word essays
·       One required non-family recommendation and optional second recommendation
·       Applicants can also submit optional; supplementary materials such as photos and videos
