USC Summer Theatre Conservatory
July 7, 2013- August 3, 2013
 
To students that are interested in acting, writing, and/or directing, you are encouraged to participate in this program!
 
  • Students may live on campus or commute daily
  • Field trips to see professional theatre in Los Angeles
  • College Credit offered: 3 units of USC elective credit
  • Workshop production at the end of the session. Work will be viewed by faculty, students, family, and friends
Following seminars will be offered:
  • Acting Intensive: The emphasis is on process and includes scene study, movement, voice and using scripted material. Students will also use theory, history, and text analysis.
  • Musical Theatre: The emphasis is on process and includes intensive study of movement, singing, and acting for the musical stage. Students will also study theory, history, and text analysis. Audition material required *Please see website
  • New Works: Writing, Directing, and Acting for the Stage: An exploration of all facets and storytelling—including writing, acting, and directing—coming together to create original works, gaining a wholistic perspective on what it takes to produce great plays.

Fernando Award Foundation, Inc.
 
For the 2012-2013 year, Fernando Award Foundation, Inc., of the San Fernando Valley has established up to ten (10) College Scholarships of $1,000.00 each and one (1) 2,000.00 are awarded in June of this year to graduating high school seniors or students attending a San Fernando Valley commuity college.
 
Scholarships will be awarded  to the most deserving students based on their participation in community activities and their volunteerism and are not limited to one per school.
 
Eligibility Requirements:
  1. Applicants must be a resident of the San Fernando Valley.
  2. Applicants must have participated in community activities of volunteered for programs within the San Fernando Valley. Please be sure this is detailed on the Scholarship App. Form.
  3. Each applicant must be a Valley High School Senior or be a student attending a Community College in the San Fernando Valley.
  4. A letter of recommendation filled out by your College Counselor

California Credit Union 2013 Scholarship Application
 
The CCU 2013 Scholarship Application is designed to acknowledge exceptional students throughout the greater Los Angeles area. They will award 10 scholarships of $1,000 each to the winning students who are active in both their schools and the community. Submission of an essay and letter of recommendation provide testament to the character and abilities of the student. **Proof of acceptance to an accredited college or university in 2013 will be required before release of reward funds.
 
Applicant Qualifications:
  •  Graduating high school senior enrolling into a two or four year college; community college student transferringi nto a four-year university; adult student returning to college
  • A minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Community and/or school involvement
  • Financial need
How to Apply:
  1.  Read all instructions completely and thoroughly
  2. Fill out applpication through Adobe Acrobat Reader and submit the following supporting documents (Documents must be unstabled & typed or legibly printed):
    - A copy of your school transcript including your GPA and ACT/SAT Scores (if applicable)
    - A letter of recommendation from someone other than a parent/guardian who has experience working with you either through a school activity, job, or community involvement
    - A one-page essay that answers ONE of the three essay questions found in the following application
     
  3. Application & supporting documents must be postmarked by Monday, April 1, 2013. No exceptions
  4. Mail complete and unstapled application and documents in a single envelope to:

Summer Medical Career Program

JULY 1st- AUGUST 2, 2013
2, 3, & 4 week programs available

Applicants must be in 11th or 12th grade when they fill out an application  and at least 16 years old by the start of program.
  • Program is desrcibed as a medical mentor program
  • Students work under the supervision of a health care educator, shadowing various medical professionals (nurse, pharmacist, etc.) who together provide a range of patient care & services
  • All programs run Monday through Friday for about 8 hours a day,  no nights or weekends; exact hours are determined by the coordinator of each program.
  • If there is financial need, a participant may request a stipend.

 Valley University Women: 2013 Scholarship
 
Valley Unniversity Women is offering scholarships of $1500 each to both girls and boys of public high schools.
 
Applicants must:
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • be a resident of the San Fernando Valley
  • plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university in CA as full time students
  • have a record of outstanding achievement and leadership
  • demonstrate financial need.
Following Documents must be Included:
  1. Scholarship Application Form and Financial Need Statement. Must be typed or completed legibly in blue or black ink.
  2. An official transcript for grades nine through present
  3. A Letter of Recommendation from the student's counselor or any facult member
  4. An Autobiographical sketch, limited to 500 words, which will include family background, educational interests, future goals and ambitions. Please feel free to discuss special family circumstances
  5. A complete copy of parents' 2012 Federal Income Tax Return (or 2011 tax return, if 2012 not yet filed.) All schedules must be included. Do NOT send the state tax forms. Applications w/incomplete tax returns will not be considered. If parents are separated or divorced, each parent must submit a complete copy of his/her returns. **PLEASE BLACK OUT ALL SSN ON THE TAX FORMS**
  6. Proof of Citizenship is required (copy of birth certificate or passport)

San Fernando Elks Lodge 1539
William L. Frye Scholarship
 
Information:
The San Fernando Elks Lodge will award a four-year 25K scholarship to a high school senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree at a four-year college or university. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the past two years , excellent academic credentials and have demonstrated a huge amount of interests while in high school. Applicants should have residency in the San Fernado Valley or have a significant affiliation with this community. The Scholarship will be made in annual increments over the four-year period contingent upon satisfactory completeion of academic work during the preceding academic year.
 
Application: Come to the college center to pick up an application.
Attachments: Read the submission directions carefully. Use only paperclips to secure documents. Do not use staples, folders, binders, or plastic page covers. Make sure you arrange the copies into 5 packages; one for each judge.
  • Copies of your Transcripts from the past two years. (1 copy)
  • A letter from your college counselor listing your UC and CSU grade point average. (1 copy)
  • A resume of extracurricular, community activities, and employment (specify if employment experience is in or out of school, paid or volunteer and if any of your income is used for household assistance) (5 copies)
  • A summary of Awards and Certificates received for leadership, service or honors in school or the community (5 copies). Include photo copies of the awards and certificates (5 copies)
  • Letters of Recommendation from a faculty member (5 copies) and a school counselor, familiar with your academic record, activities and financial situation (5 copies)

USC/Chevron Frontiers of Energy Resources Summer Camp 2013
The Frontiers of Energy Resources Summer Camp offers a prepatory, interactive training program focusing on various energy resources including fossil fuels, solar, biofuels, nuclear energy, and information technologies for energy efficient operations. This program is designed to introduce exceptional high school juniors and as many as 5 HS science/math teachers to the opportunities and career possibilities available in the global energy resources industry.
