Rigoberto Ruelas Memorial Scholarship

Mr. Ruelas was a dedicated and inspiring teacher who believed all students could achieve their dreams and this scholarship was developed to assist graduating seniors in meeting those goals.

Requirements:
-First generation, college bound graduating senior, AB 131 Ca. Dream Act Beneficiaries are encouraged.
-2.75 GPA or higher
-2 Letters of Recommendation
-A 1-2 page thematic essay explaining what you would do if you had the authority to change your school in a positive way, what specific changes would you make?

Association of Mexican American Educators

The association of Mexican American educators is offering this scholarship to senior high school students of Latino descent, who will graduate high school in LAUSD June 2015, and will enroll in a two- or four - year institute in the Fall 2015.

A typed essay is required.
"Describe how an important person(s) have helped empower you to achieve your academic goals. What steps will you take to continue to persevere and obtain your college degree? How can you give back to your community after graduating from college?"

Calling all LAUSD High School Seniors!
How are your changing your community through community activism and empowerment?
Tell Sue Embrey's scholarship committee all about it to recieve up to a $2,000 scholarship.

A 800 word essay, two page essay. One page describing your accomplishments and the second page describing the specific details of your project, included pictures or videos of your service, a scholarship application form,  are 2 letters of recommendations are required to enter.

Ruben Salazar Memorial Scholarship

The Ruben Salazar Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of the late Los Angeles Times journalist and nationally known Chicano activist. Mr. Salazar died in August 1970, while covering the National Chicano Moratorium against the war in Vietnam and the ensuing riot through the streets of East Los Angeles. 

This scholarship is being awarded each spring to graduating seniors who attend a LAUSD High School, Continuation School, or are enrolled in a High School Completion Program at a LAUSD Community Adult School. 

A written prose or poetry about the meaning of the life and/or writings of Ruben Salazar is required.

Dr. Karin Duran Memorial Youth Program

The Dr. Karin Duran Memorial Youth Scholarship program has been established to provide financial assistance  to outstanding high school Latinas from the San Fernando community who has applied to a college or university.

Applicant Must
1. Be a Latina
2. Be a graduating senior from a high school in the San Fernando Valley
3. Have applied to a two year or four year college/university for the Fall 2015
4. Maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher

Awareness of Armenian Genocide

#MARCHFORJUSTICE

California high school students in 9th-12th grade are invited to participate in the essay contest to support the world-wide efforts to increase greater awareness of Armenian Genocide on its centennial anniversary.

Winners will be awarded scholarship money, as well as be flown up to the State Capitol on April 20th, 2015  to take part in the Legislature's centennial commemoration of the Armenian Genocide. 

Essay Criteria
  • The State of California and 43 U.S. States have joined over 20 governments around the world recognizing the Armenian Genocide,perpetrated by the Ottoman Turkish regime a century ago. The Government of Turkey threatens to retaliate against nations, including the United States, who recognized the Genocide. 
  • Write a letter to President Obama, discussing actions the United States should take regarding the Armenian Genocide and persuading the Republic of Turkey away from denying its past history. 
  • Essay should be 500 words,doubled-spaced, with 12 font.
  • Include name, age,highschool, grade, teacher's name, and subject area, city, phone number, and email address at the top of the essay.

The Nordstrom Scholarship

Are you currently a junior?
 
The Nordstrom Scholarship is offering 80 high school juniors who: live and attend a U.S. territory school with a Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack store, have at least a 2.7 GPA, volunteer or participate in community service or extracurricular activities, plan on attending an accredited college during all four years, and plan on applying for financial assistance in order to attend college.

The Nordstrom Scholarship is designed to encourage academic excellence and the pursuit of higher education among high school students living in provinces in which Nordstrom stores are located.
